Today I am at the Catholic mission instead of the other place. Too many Nassaras at the other one. The past two weeks have been really good. I made a pepèniere, or a small tree nursery. Hopefully my acacia senegal trees will grow, but I am not that confident. I think the dirt has too much clay in it. Last Friday we went on a field trip to Bamé where another volunteer lives. One of us will live there. I really liked the village and her house made me excited about my own place. It looked like a home. This Thursday we find out our sites and next week we will go visit for the week. I am anxious to know where I will be, but it’s a little strange to think that I will be there for so long. Yesterday, we went to the APCD’s farm and were able to see the effects erosion had on his land. Afterwards we got to go hiking. The view was excellent and it was really nice to do something active instead of sitting in class all day. Today, unlike normal we didn’t have school, but this afternoon I have another language placement interview. I probably won’t make it to intermediate high which is where I am supposed to be before training is over, but we still have about 5 or 6 more weeks to get there.
I was going to try and put pictures up but I have heard people say you can get a virus from using your key in a cyber café, so I am going to wait until I can use the one at the office. I know there is probably a lot I am forgetting, but its difficult to remember everything in the time I am here. Oh the weather. It has stopped raining and so the humidity is already much better. It’s still hot during the day, but the mornings are fairly cool. Yesterday morning my little brother and sister were huddled around the fire and they kept saying, il fait froid! Their “cold” was probably 70 or 75 degrees. Welcome to Africa.
Hey! It’s wonderful to see notes from you on what all is going on. I have thought about you so much and hoped all is well with you. You are doing amazing things and I admire your adventurous spirit. Love ya!

Hey! Good to hear from you a world away! I can’t wait to follow your story. We are doing well. We just finished 2 straight days of candy with our skater dude, HULK and ballerina. I am praying for you!

Ashley,
Man it is so good to hear that you are enjoying your time in Africa. I wrote you a letter, but am not sure if it ever made it to you. There is something in me that wants to defy all internet usage…maybe there is something adventurous about the handwritten letter, but this blog thing is really quite easy!
Keep it up with the French…I am so proud of you. Spanish still kicks me around at work each day, so I can empathize, but it sounds like you are getting the hang of it.
You are so brave! Enjoy your time…hope to hear from you soon. (I am going to keep sending the mail…I just really like letters) Love you and am praying for you.
